You’ll find plenty of Spanish classics, plus some additions unique to the Canary Islands. The locals definitely have a sweet tooth so don’t skip the puddings! Look out for these dishes at the tapas bar:

    • Mojo Sauce - Made with red or green peppers and packed with chilli and herbs.
    • Papas Arrugadas - To make these ‘wrinkled potatoes’, they’re boiled in seawater before roasting.
    • Churros de Pescado - Fish goujons fried in a light herby batter, served with aioli.

    • Principe Alberto - Rich, layered chocolate mousse with coffee and toasted nuts.

There are loads of international dining options on holidays to Playa de las Americas. These are our faves for local flavours:

    • El Jardin de la Abuela - End your family day on the beach with the tasty tapas at this pretty garden restaurant.
    • Cafe Bar Lormar - Big, hearty Spanish food and freshly caught fish, served by a really friendly chef.

Things to do in Playa de las Americas

    Sail the seven seas

There are ways to get out on the water that suit everyone, from family-friendly whale watching on the Peter Pan pirate ship to the wild Utopia boat parties with an open bar. For loved-up couples, we suggest a private yacht trip with Blue Jack Sail.

    Make a scene

You can get glam photos even on cheap holidays to Playa de las Americas! Our favourite posing spot is the Light and Music Fountain, where the dancing water and colourful lights are an ideal backdrop for profile pics.

    Don’t look down

The Mount Teide volcano is about an hour’s drive from the resort and happens to be the highest point in Spain. The drive there is a winding thrill ride in itself, but you can also take a cable car right to the top and enjoy the views. It’s a popular day out for keen cyclists as well.

    Slide like the wind

Siam Park waterpark is one of the highest rated in the world by tourists, so you’ve got to visit on your Playa las Americas holidays. There are adrenaline-pumping rides for the grown-ups, a glass slide through an aquarium, and loads of fun for little ones too.

What's the weather like in Playa de las Americas?

The subtropical climate makes last-minute holidays to Playa de las Americas very popular, as you’ll get big sunny days and warm seas all year round. From December to April, it cools down a little, but the weather’s still nice enough to catch a tan.

    Playa De Las Americas Weather

There's little rain here except for the odd shower in winter, and it's permanently humid: 17° Celsius on average at New Year compared with temperatures in the late 20s° Celsius by the summer apex. The water temperature is also constantly warm, and fresh Atlantic breezes stave off any oppressive heat.

    Landscape

The numerous beaches around the azure coast with beautiful fine sand make for a colourful clash with the ocean blue all around, and the huge mountains in the horizon. For spectacular sunset views, head to the main beach or the little harbour of Puerto Marina, to watch all manner of vessels from yachts to fishing boats skirt into the translucent horizon.

Things To Do on Playa De Las Americas Holidays

Visit the numerous aqua parks, always a favourite with the kids, Crazy Golf at Santiago, the Zoo at nearby Los Cristianos, boat trips and cruises around the coast, and even helicopter rides over the island across the mountains of Los Gigantes and Teide, Spain's highest peak. That's if you can tear yourself away from the resort's numerous beaches, both natural and man-made.

    Culture

Tenerife's calendar is jam-packed with festivities, befitting it's Hispanic culture: from Carnivals in the capital Santa Cruz in February, to June's Music Festival. Village markets, such as the one held in Torviscas at weekends, offer a more authentic array of Canarian wares and goods than the primarily European-centred shopping malls in the town centre.
