We really can’t say enough good stuff about beach breaks in Egypt. From fine white sand to beachfront bars, you just can’t go wrong with the sun, sea and sand here. And, oh, the water... To say taking a dip in the Red Sea is heavenly doesn’t even begin to do it justice. Trying snorkelling or scuba diving will also reveal the colourful coral reefs and shining shoals of fish hidden below the waves. From the sheltered Makadi Bay in Hurghada to Sharm El Sheikh’s breathtaking Nama Bay, brochure pictures and Instagram snaps just don’t hold a candle to the beauty of these sandy stretches. Many resorts in Egypt offer private beach areas, too.

Nightlife in Egypt

Even when it gets too dark to dive or sunbathe, the waterfronts are the place to be if you're looking for a good time on your Egypt holiday. From the Nile-fronted city of Cairo, to the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm el Sheikh, you can mingle with the locals or meet like-minded travellers and tourists in the pubs, clubs and bars that line the main strips. Or, if it's family-friendly activities you're searching for, why not book a trip to see one of Egypt's electrifying sound and light shows – we haven't found anyone who hasn't been impressed by a spot-lit sphinx yet!

Things to eat in Egypt

If you’re looking to sample a signature Egyptian dish, expect lots of fresh vegetables, rice, bread and mezze options. Closely linked to North African cuisine, with hints of Mediterranean and Arabic influence too, dishes will be lighter on meat but won't lack on taste thanks to the rich local spices the food is infused with.

Culture in Egypt

The world-renowned historical treasures of this beautiful country - famous temples, awe-inspiring pyramids and mystifying tombs - are some of the amazing things you can experience on a cultural tour of Egypt. Well-respected museums and UNESCO World Heritage Sites abound, and this country even boasts the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the Pyramids of Giza. Learn about heiroglyphs, sphinxes and pharaohs as you wander around ruins that date back thousands of years. Trust us, you'll want to take pictures wherever your archeological adventure takes you.

Things to do in Egypt

Discover the ancient Egyptians

From Tutankhamun's tomb to the temples dotted all over Egypt, there's nowhere better to learn about one of the most fascinating civilizations in history than where they lived. Many excursions can be arranged by speaking to your hotel reception for information and advice - you won't regret seeing a sphinx or the Pyramids of Giza in person.

Scuba dive or snorkel in the Red Sea

Scuba diving pros and beginners alike are encouraged to journey under the water to discover a whole new world of rainbow fish, pretty coral and interesting shipwrecks. Known for some of the best diving spots in the world, you could even find yourself swimming alongside turtles. Keep an eye out for Nemo down there too - colourful clownfish are a fun fish to spot.

Take a virtual tour of Egypt's famous tombs

If you want to stay by the beach - let's face it, who wouldn't - but still experience some seriously amazing sights (or if you're at home daydreaming about visiting Egypt, for that matter), why not take a virtual tour? Follow these links and you can explore a VR tour of the Tomb of Queen Meresankh III and a VR tour of the Tomb of Pharaoh Ramesses VI without moving a muscle.

What's the weather like in Egypt?

With its calendar split into two seasons - summer and winter - Egypt has no time for autumn and spring; although the winters here are not as we know them. One thing’s for sure - Egypt holidays are always hot! Sizzling temperatures in July and August see the thermometer soaring into the 40s during the highs of the summer season, although the temperature stays in the 20s during the gorgeous winter season - perfect for sunbathing and dipping in the sea. Some areas of Egypt can go years without seeing a drop of rain - so leave that brolly in Britain!
